Actually it was several chums, and several bottles of rum. Palm Springs turned into a Cottonwood re-union, most of it spent on the 19th hole. Our home base for the week was at a lovely Rancho La Quinta rental property with Warren & Deb, and Kelvin & Brenda. On three different days we hooked up with three more CW couples (JD & Susan, Dave & Annie, Tom & Jan), so every day included golf and a party afterwards. Several hot tubs, lots of laughs and some lost brain cells along the way (which is a good thing if you subscribe to Cliff's buffalo theory from Cheers). We played at 5 different courses (G.C. at La Quinta, Palm Desert, Desert Princess, SilverRock, Desert Willows - Firecliff) with the last two being the most picturesque and difficult. The other challenge was daylight, as afternoon rounds have to be completed by 5 pm when daylight disappears in minutes and it becomes completely dark without a dusk warning. Two of our rounds were completed just in time.
One evening we went to the Westin Hotel to listen to Man of Sax (aka Art of Jazz) and his band for a very entertaining experience on the patio surrounded by Lava Heaters which seem to be the rage down here and are very effective with their heat distribution besides looking great. Another evening we ventured into downtown Palm Springs for Village Fest (night market), a nice Mexican dinner and perhaps one too many Margaritta's (for some). AC/DC hosted a wonderful dinner and evening for the entire CW group, while two anonymous ladies serenaded the rest of us (or at least those that didn't wear noise mufflers). Yesterday we all went over to JD & Susan's to watch the CFL West Final and it was a noisy affair with our Stamps overcoming the hometown BC Lions. It was a great way to finish our week with all of our CW friends, some of whom were staying and others who were returning home.
We have retreated to Desert Hot Springs, a few miles north of Palm Springs. We hope the mineral waters will help to rejuvenate our bodies! While we lay low for a few days, Rhonda is plotting her Black Friday strategy. I'm sure the American economy will appreciate her efforts.
